Is the Abortion Sonogram Law Unconstitutional?
If you aren't already aware, Texas has created a new abortion sonogram law. This is a law that requires all women considering abortion to have a sonogram and listen to a description of the fetus before aborting it. This law was deemed unconstitutional by some, saying that it affects the women's reproductive rights. Because the law was granted unconstitutional, the law was appealed. The Supreme Court is now refusing Texas the permission to enforce the new sonogram law while under appeal. The real question is, is the new abortion sonogram law unconstitutional? Although I believe the law is a tad deviant, I don't believe it is unconstitutional. Even though the reason behind this law may be of biased opinion (people not believing in abortion) it can be argued that the law was created for medical purposes. It can be argued that the law was created by concerns for the health of the mother. It doesn't seem unconstitutional to me because it is just another required "medical test." Pregnant women have sonograms all the time, the only thing that could seem unconstitutional is that the mothers do not have an option to say no to the sonogram. The doctor giving a description of the fetus to the patient is not unconstitutional because that is a Doctor's job. I believe people are upset with the fact that they do not have an option to say no to all of this, which is interesting to me because there has never really been a reason to before. In my opinion, I like the law. It allows women to understand what exactly is happening to their bodies when they're pregnant and I believe that is something they need to be informed of. I believe it is necessary that before women get an abortion they truly understand what the procedure is. So in my opinion, the law is not unconstitutional, it just comes from biased opinions.

Critigue-Is the Abortion Sonogram Law Unconstitutional?
My classmate Jessica Ready posted an article "Is the Abortion Sonogram Law Unconstitutional?" This article is about a new abortion sonogram law. The law requires all women considering abortion to have a sonogram and listen to the fetus before aborting it. The law was granted unconstitutional and was appealed. The question Jessica asked was the abortion sonogram law considered to be unconstitutional? She believes that it is not unconstitutional. She agrees that the law was created for medical purposes and it is something women should be informed of. By giving the mother information about the fetus the doctor is just doing his job.
I have to disagree with what Jessica. My opinion is that a women should have the right to choose. When an abortion is done some places already do a sonogram. The women should have a choice if they want to hear about it. I do not know if all abortion places are like that, but some are. A doctor can suggest proceedures, operations, medications and you have the right to say no. A sonogram or knowing the results from a sonogram should not be any different. If a women is going in for an abortion she is not going to want hear or see anything that has to do with the baby. I believe that the law was created not for medical reasons but in the hopes that by having a sonogram and showing the mother the fetus is the goverrnments way of trying to change the mothers mind into keeping the baby. The doctor may be doing his job by dong the sonogram, but should be the women's job to decide if she wants the procedure done or to hear the results.
I feel Jessica's article was well written and she does make a good point. I do understand where she coming from. I just do not agree with her.
My colleague Jessica Ready has written an argument paper over a piece of law that was trying to be passed over abortion. The law states that a women who is considering abortion has to have regular sonograms and before aborting the child has to listen to the fetus heart beat. I do believe that this piece of legislature is extreme however; I do believe that it is necessary. Many women each year become pregnant out of wed-lock and or many of them come from low income families. As unfortunate as that may be women from unstable backgrounds should know their limitations and know what they are possibly getting themselves into.
Is this bill unconstitutional? I do believe that it is unconstitutional but I do believe that it is necessary. Maybe a women who sees the heart beat of a baby she is about to kill will change her mind. Many families in America are looking for children to adopt and to me a heart beat is a heart beat, born or unborn.
